A ride on the Emirates Air Line

Kamis, 05 Juli 2012

When I first heard about London getting a cable car I wondered why we didn't already have one - we are London after all. I thought it would be ages before the Emirates Air Line was actually built but it's finally here and is a nice addition to the city's skyline.

I took a ride on it the first weekend it opened and was pleasantly surprised. Even though the ride lasts just 5-10 minutes departing from Greenwich in South London (a great spot for tourists) or Royal Victoria Dock in North London (not where you'll find many tourists) it's perfect for visitors to London who don't have too much time but still want to do as much as they can, as well as commuters who fancy travelling by air to work.

The best thing about it is the amazing views. I went just before sunset and the summer warmth and orange sky made London look, dare I say it, magical. You can see the Thames, the O2, Canary Wharf and beyond.

Something else that I like is that it's sponsored by Emirates with the staff wearing uniforms similar to the flight attendants and making it feel like you're having a travel experience in London.

It doesn't cost too much either. If you have an Oyster card or if you're a visitor to London and have bought a Travelcard for the day it costs £3.20 each way or £6.40 for the '360' round trip fare. But if you're paying cash it's £4.30 each way or £8.60 for a '360' trip.

It's open until 9pm in the summer and times will change throughout winter.
