Cruising for young people

Rabu, 25 Juli 2012

Cruising is getting younger. It's not just for retired folk and people in their early twenties want in on the action too. A recent survey by Mintel showed that 55 per cent of 19-24 year-olds wanted to go on a cruise, compared with just 26 per cent of over-65s.

I've found a cruise ship that the young, trendy and glamorous will love. Introducing MSC Divina, the latest ship to join MSC Cruises' fleet inspired by the timeless elegance of Italian film star Sophia Loren.

MSC Divina features a 4D cinema and Formula 1 simulator, a real stone piazza, an opulent spa and an exclusive yacht club. The cabins and suites range from Inside cabins to the MSC Yacht Club Royal Suite with its walk-in wardobe, bathtub in the bathroom and a games cosole. The sexiest of all is the Sophia Loren Royal Suite on deck 16, designed by the actress featuring rich reds, photographs of her and a replica of her own dressing table so you can get ready like a film star!

The ship has 18 decks (14 for passengers), each named after an ancient Greek god. The MSC Aurea Spa has a range of treatments including Balinese massages. There's also a sauna, a Whirlpool and gym. The MSC Yacht Club offers ultimate luxury and has its own concierge, butler service and world-class entertainment. Its Top Sail Lounge is where you can go for high tea and panoramic views! The Yacht Club Library offers books in six languages and 20 books chosen by Sophia Loren herself!

So what does MSC Divina lack for modern day cruising? Free wifi. There is wireless internet in communal areas and you can connect from a laptop in your cabin but it's not free of charge and the internet on cruises is known to be expensive so you may want to spend the week having a digital detox!

MSC Divina cruises year-round in the Mediterranean and seasonally in Northern Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean, South America, the Indian Ocean, and South and West Africa. It boasts 1,751 cabins, 25 lifts and 30,000 square metres of public spaces with a casino, seven restaurants, 20 bars and lounges, four swimming pools and a bowling alley.

A seven-night cruise starts from £399 (cruise only) per person. Seven nights in the MSC Yacht Club Suite costs £1,689 per person and the Sophia Loren Royal Suite is £2,249 per person.
