... let it be at the Wyndham Grand in Chelsea as the hotel has got its limited edition themed afternoon tea down to, well, a T! With London being the centre for so many huge events this year (the Jubilee, Olympics, the opening of the tallest building in Europe etc.) the Wyndham Grand has teamed up with British chocolatier Damian Allsop to create the perfect afternoon tea menu for lovers of London and all its multicutlural corners.
Served in the glass-fronted lounge overlooking Chelsea Harbour, the EAT London Afternoon Tea is everything you could ask for in the foodie treat - indulgent, surprising and chocolate heaven! What makes it so much fun is that each of the dishes are named after famous London spots with different cultural backgrounds, like China Town, Edgware Road and Old Kent Road.
We opted for the Royal English tea (I only ever drink traditional English with afternoon tea!) and first to be served was the sandwiches and scones. They were delish with gorgeous smoked salmon, cured Manchego and gherkins. My favourite was the Fulham Road, a Spanish open sandwich of cured Manchego, Catalan tomato bread and olive oil.
The scones were to die for too - made with a twist and named after Old Kent Road, they were topped with a crumble and came with Jersey clotted cream (of course) and a delicious fresh apple jam instead of traditional strawberry. A really nice touch and one of the tastiest surprises of the EAT London Afternoon Tea.
After the sandwiches and scones came the sweets that were beautifully presented and featured lots of chocolate! I tried the mango lassi chocopops first (Brick Lane) before biting into the China Town (a dark chocolate and roasted peanut brownie with a soy caramel ganache and ginger crunch) - this was masterly done and tasted like a Chinese dish!
The pistachio ice cream dipped in lemon-flavoured white chocolate (Edgware Road) was divine. It had crushed pistachio and tangy white chocolate, which worked so well. The fluffy tiramisu cheesecake with a coffee and almond crunch (Soho Square) and the exotic chocolate ice cream with banana meringue sticks and a passion fruit sorbet (Brixton Hill) were also delicious and as always with afternoon tea, it ended with me feeling very happy, full and on a sugary high!
If the delectable afternoon tea wasn't enough, the Wyndham Grand's lounge has a beautiful ambience. It's set overlooking Chelsea Harbour with great views and a cosy, luxurious atmosphere.
If you like what you see and want to experience this London-themed afternoon tea in the tucked away hotel Wyndham Grand you'll need to hurry as it's only available until the end of June and is a must if you're partial to delectable treats in the afternoon! The EAT London Afternoon Tea costs £28 per person and £38 with champagne.
