Chic new sunglasses by Persol

Kamis, 28 Juni 2012

So it was my birthday last week and one of the best presents I received was a gorgeous pair of Persol Capri Edition sunglasses. I LOVE THEM! The Capri collection was inspired by the Italian island of Capri and in particular the Casa Malaparte, a villa which perches on the edge of a cliff on the island.

The sunglasses feature a redesigned silver arrow reminiscent of the villa's shape, silver curved detail inspired by a white wall on top of the house, plus the back end of the temples are etched to emulate the stairs that lead to the villa's rooftop.

The packaging is lovely too and I can already imaging packing the cool case in my beach bag. The colour? A stunning grey-brown. The perfect alternative to boring black shades this summer. Now all I need is a ticket to Capri to show them off on the beach!

Hotel of the week: Palace Hotel Tokyo

This week I'm shining the spotlight on the sleek and serene Palace Hotel Tokyo, which apart from only opening its doors a couple of months ago, has just launched an Evian spa adding some French style to the very Japanese hotel.

The Evian SPA TOKYO is the first Evian spa to open in Japan and features five treatment rooms and a spa suite (each named after a peak in the Alps), a marble sauna, heated baths, a cold plunge pool, a dry sauna, reclining baths and separate men and women's relaxation lounges.

To evoke serenity in a bustling city, the spa has views of the Imperial Palace Gardens, moats and Mt Fuji on a clear day. The spa treatments focus on 'wellness through water' with facials, body scrubs and rituals celebrating nourishment and vitality.

The swimming pool resembles a deep blue mountain pond, the reception area has a loose stone garden and the walls were designed to echo a silhouette of the Alps. In case you forget you're actually in Japan and not France, there is an origami flock of birds displayed on the spa's ceiling. The design of the spa is all about nature meeting elegant Japanese design.

In the ladies spa area, with its cedar-scented marble sauna, there are heated seats and LED light therapy technology that mirrors a 24-hour cycle of natural light in the French Alps every 10 minutes.

If you're a spa enthusiast and need an excuse to take a trip to Japan, here it is! A spa day at the hotel for guests costs 2,500 yen (£20) per day.

Margherita Missoni marries in Italy (check out her dress!)

Illuminated bales of hay, Romany-painted caravans, a mystic fortune teller and a travelling band strumming (plus a whole host of high-profile fashionistas) - this is how to do a gypsy wedding in style. Margherita Missoni, fashion heiress and daughter of creative director Angela Missoni, got married this weekend in the Varese countryside, outside Milan.

Margherita married local beau Eugenio Amos and guests included Carine Roitfeld and Mario Testino. Her dress was a Giambattista Valli design made with Missoni silk and organza and the bride wore her hair in Heidi-esque braids with a gothic-style tiara.

The traditional ceremony took place at the Santa Maria Annunciata church in Brunello and the guests ate Moroccan food on cushions scattered on the grass. The bridesmaids wore floral dresses and fresh-flower headdresses that matched Margherita's bouquet. Love the over-embellished wedding dress worn in a simple Italian farmhouse setting!

Hotel of the week: Palacio Nazarenas

Selasa, 19 Juni 2012

With so many gorgeous hotels around the world it's impossible for me to talk about them all, so each week I'll select my favourite for a Hotel of the week series. First up, is the stunning new Palacio Nazarenas which has just opened its doors in Peru.

Part of the Orient-Express portfolio, the all-suite hotel exudes luxury and boasts spectacular surroundings. The former 16th century convent located in the capital of the ancient Inca empire, Cuzco, has 55 state-of-the-art oxygenated rooms, the first outdoor infinity pool in the area and a gourmet restaurant.

The property is so special that the excavation process required the use of toothbrushes with a whole host of treasures found by architects and archaeologists which are now displayed at the hotel's Library. Book a Z-Collection suite for their original Inca niches and Colonial arches or the Nazarenas suite, formerly the Abbess' private prayer room.

More of Palacio Nazarenas' unique features include original Inca walls that have been preserved under glass floors with a stream running over them in the Hypnoze spa, its own perfume made from Andean herbs in the garden for guests to take the fragrance home with them to remember their stay and each suite has a cocktail making set with instructions and recipes so you can createfor making exotic Andean tipples and enjoying the stunning views. Keira Knightley dazzles in Valentino

Senin, 18 Juni 2012

I don't usually rave about the same style the fashion mags do but the dress Keira Knightley wore for the Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World premiere was too gorgeous not to mention.

The Valentino number looked simply stunning on the actress with floral embroidery and a flattering style for her shape. She teamed the look with a boho hairstyle complete with red petals in her hair and a pair of nude shoes.

Talking of nude shoes, I tried on a gorgeous pair from M&S's Autograph collection. The shoes aren't too high, are made with fine leather and are quite comfy too. Quite similar to what Keira had poking out under her dress and very Kate Middleton! They're a bargain at £45 too.

If you have just one afternoon tea in London this month...

Rabu, 13 Juni 2012

... let it be at the Wyndham Grand in Chelsea as the hotel has got its limited edition themed afternoon tea down to, well, a T! With London being the centre for so many huge events this year (the Jubilee, Olympics, the opening of the tallest building in Europe etc.) the Wyndham Grand has teamed up with British chocolatier Damian Allsop to create the perfect afternoon tea menu for lovers of London and all its multicutlural corners.

Served in the glass-fronted lounge overlooking Chelsea Harbour, the EAT London Afternoon Tea is everything you could ask for in the foodie treat - indulgent, surprising and chocolate heaven! What makes it so much fun is that each of the dishes are named after famous London spots with different cultural backgrounds, like China Town, Edgware Road and Old Kent Road.

We opted for the Royal English tea (I only ever drink traditional English with afternoon tea!) and first to be served was the sandwiches and scones. They were delish with gorgeous smoked salmon, cured Manchego and gherkins. My favourite was the Fulham Road, a Spanish open sandwich of cured Manchego, Catalan tomato bread and olive oil.

The scones were to die for too - made with a twist and named after Old Kent Road, they were topped with a crumble and came with Jersey clotted cream (of course) and a delicious fresh apple jam instead of traditional strawberry. A really nice touch and one of the tastiest surprises of the EAT London Afternoon Tea.

After the sandwiches and scones came the sweets that were beautifully presented and featured lots of chocolate! I tried the mango lassi chocopops first (Brick Lane) before biting into the China Town (a dark chocolate and roasted peanut brownie with a soy caramel ganache and ginger crunch) - this was masterly done and tasted like a Chinese dish!

The pistachio ice cream dipped in lemon-flavoured white chocolate (Edgware Road) was divine. It had crushed pistachio and tangy white chocolate, which worked so well. The fluffy tiramisu cheesecake with a coffee and almond crunch (Soho Square) and the exotic chocolate ice cream with banana meringue sticks and a passion fruit sorbet (Brixton Hill) were also delicious and as always with afternoon tea, it ended with me feeling very happy, full and on a sugary high!

If the delectable afternoon tea wasn't enough, the Wyndham Grand's lounge has a beautiful ambience. It's set overlooking Chelsea Harbour with great views and a cosy, luxurious atmosphere.

If you like what you see and want to experience this London-themed afternoon tea in the tucked away hotel Wyndham Grand you'll need to hurry as it's only available until the end of June and is a must if you're partial to delectable treats in the afternoon! The EAT London Afternoon Tea costs £28 per person and £38 with champagne.
